My New Postgres Blog Home

I've finally decided to give up on blogging with Serendipity. It's just too flaky.
I still have to put code-like stuff in HTML tags though.
There are already some nicer features I see about blogger, though.

It's a real pity that there isn't a better blogging package that's Postgres-backed. The disdain that the Wordpress people have for anything but MySQL is depressing. I did try to use it once with the Postgres wrapper hack, but it quickly turned into a disaster.

For those interested, there's a link to the old blog on the right hand side of the page.

  1. Hi, Andrew.

I use Wordpress with PostgreSQL with no troubles. I am using Wordpress 3.5 with PG 8.4.

    1. Yes, but at least some add-ons cause it to fail. I forget the details but it soured me on it.

  2. It sounds like django or jekyll, although overkill, might be useful if you didn't want it hosted on blogspot and also wanted Postgres.

Nick is getting back next week and was going to investigate node.js alternatives, with the advantage being lightweight, integration into our node.js apps, and a really rich set of templating/publishing formats baked in(markdown, coffeescript, html, jade, wysiwyg, etc.). I'll let you know if he finds anything interesting, or if the answer is really django. If we really wanted to go overkill, we could consider extending one with a redis cache of blog posts on top of postgres with your new native redis bindings!

    1. Blogspot works fairly well. I use Google for other things so it makes sense.

  3. Hi :) In our production environment we are using postgresql-9.2.1 which is installed using postgresql-9.2.1-1-linux-x64-binaries.tar.gz. I want to upgrade it to postgresql-9.2.2. But am not able to get linux-x64-binaries of 9.2.2.
Can somebody help in me in getting this binary?

    1. This is a blog, for crying out loud! Asking this question here is like going to a fishmonger's for a haircut. Ask usage questions on the PostgreSQL mailing lists. There is even a link to the main PostgreSQL site in the links on the right of this page. Why should anyone help you if you can't even be bothered to do the minimal research required to find an appropriate forum to ask questions?

  4. Hi Andrew, I use blogspot, as you know. :) It's generally quite good, but lately I have noticed some flakiness in the editor. For instance, it currently seems to have problems loading images from local drives. I have had to load them first to S3 and import them via URL. This problem seems to have come up a couple times recently for blogspot users to judge from the mail lists.

    1. I rarely load images, I'm a textual kinda guy :-) S9y had odd issues with media too. But thanks for the heads up.
